Blackjack Rules
One of the most popular casino games, Blackjack or 21 as it is commonly known is a card game that is played between the dealer and the player. While there may be several players at the table, what you are most concerned about is the dealer. It is usually played with deck of 52 cards with the deck numbers ranging from one to eight. The basic rule of blackjack is simple. You need to have a hand value that is closer to 21 as compared to the dealer. Also you need to ensure that the total does not exceed 21 in which case you go “bust” or lose.
Value of the Cards
Cards in Blackjack are assigned the following valuations:
The King, Queen and Jack are each allotted 10 points.
Based on what is better for the player, an Ace is 1 point or 11 points. A hand containing Ace is called soft total. For example Ace and 5 has a soft total of 16 in which case the Ace is counted as 11
Cards from 1-9 have their corresponding numerical value assigned to them.
A blackjack or natural is when you have a picture card and an Ace.
Dealing Cards
The dealer deals two cards each to each person on the table either face down or face up. Then he deals two cards for himself, one is face down and known as the Hole card and the other is face up. Now the time comes for the players to choose from the different options. While Hit allows the player to select another card, Stand is for no extra cards. If the player wants to double the bet and choose another extra card it is known as double down or else choose to split the cards of same value into two separate hands.
The dealer in blackjack has to stick to the Dealer stands on all 17s rule in which he has to take a stand at 17 or higher and choose only if total is 16 or less. You win if the dealer’s total is less than yours or if he goes bust.
